Hi, I'm Natalie!
My love of designing learning experiences grew from my own desire to explore. I started my career as a Teacher of English as a Foreign Language for adults because I loved connecting with people from other cultures. I have lived and taught in South Korea, Vietnam, Hungary, and China. I quickly learned that teaching English is not just about grammar; it's also about creating connections with learners, inspiring confidence, and building job skills.
I loved thinking creatively about how I could best help my students attain the skills they needed to accomplish their goals in their professional and personal lives. That's what got me into Instructional Design. I hold a Master's in Instructional Design & Learning Technology and I currently work as an ID in the construction industry, creating trainings from safety courses to leadership skills for managers. |
What I Bring to the Table
Though you may find other Instructional Designers who were formerly teachers, I have worked with adult learners from many different cultures whose first language wasn't English. My learners ranged from university students, business professionals, to senior citizens. This taught me to excel in creating content that is clear and accessible to a wide array of learner backgrounds.
I currently work as an Instructional Designer within the construction industry. Though I have no prior experience in the construction, I've learned to interview SMEs in a professional and comprehensive way to glean key concepts and lessons that will help other learners. I've also learned how to translate complex work processes into engaging and accessible learning content, a skill that is applicable to any field. I am confident using a variety of authoring and learning tools, such as Articulate Storyline and Articulate Rise, and with working on various stages of a training project, such as SME interviews, scriptwriting, storyboarding, and e-learning development.
Lastly, with my Master's in Instructional Design, I am well-versed in learning theories and instructional design principles and how they are used in various contexts. One project I am especially proud of is a healthcare training proposal for using a medical device that nurses often need to use during the COVID pandemic. That proposal can be viewed in more detail here. I also wrote about this project as a contributor to the Instructional Design Fieldbook, published in 2022.
More details about my experience can be viewed on my LinkedIn profile.
